which breast cancer walk should I participate in?

Ok so I wanted to do either the avon 2 day walk in June or the susan B. Komen 3 day walk in August…I know they both go toward the same cause. I wanted to do it cause a lot of family members die from or had cancer, not breast cancer but its still cancer. My only concerns are the june is closer so I wouldn’t have a lot of time to get a lil more in shape so the walk doesn’t kill me…lol. But Augusts one is double the miles even though its further away. And I’m not completely sure of the differences between the walks either besides different days and different miles. So any advise and thoughts would help me with my decision.

I’m posting in this section cause I thought I would get the most advise.
The susan one is the longer one

I would do the Susan one myself. Less time to walk but no matter what they are both a good cause.

I am 15 and thinking about walking for the 3 day Susan G. Komen cancer walk this summer. I would like some advice from any past walkers and would also like to know things such as: Are there any breaks during the day? And what places do you walk to/through? (I would be walking in Chicago or Michigan). Any helpful information would be appreciated! Thanks!
I would also like to know about the money raised. On the online sign up sheet it says "agrees to earn a minimum of $2,300"? How do i get this? Will i need to find a sponsor or something?? Please help!!

You can check the website for information. If you are walking to support this cause it is expected for you to get sponsors that will agree to donate money. So you need to ask as many people as possible for sums of money that will total up to at least $2300 – please notice that as a minor you will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You should also note that in order to walk as an individual they are requesting a $90 registration fee.

Walking the Susan G komen 3 day in Boston for Breast Cancer awareness… Need a cute funny name for a cookbook?
Need to raise 2300$ in order to participate, one of my fundraiser ideas is a cookbook that will be sold locally. Its compiled of recipes from breast cancer survivors and loved ones who have had some one pass from breast cancer. However I do not have a name for the book yet….. any cute funny ideas?
The name of our team is Boobie Brigade if that helps….

Great for you. I may be interested in purchasing your book. Let me know if I can buy one. They are great fundrasiers, a local group here did one and 2 years laters is still selling well. So keep any left over prfots for next years marathon, or donate to Breast Cnacer Awareness.

When is the walk? You will need a couple fo months for the book to be compiles, then printed, then time for it to sell. So just keep it in mind.

****Where are you from. I know a lot of people are going the Boston route but also try do to something locally insipired. Is there something that your town is known for?

Sheesh I am having a hard time coming up with some neat ideas…

Having hard time coming up with original name for a Team to walk in the 3 day. I am 1 year cancer survivor, this will be my 2nd walk. I was thinking "Boob-dacious", but when I did a search with that name, it was associated with some kind of adult magazine and performers. I am from Delaware, thought about including that but some of my team members live in NJ too. I was also thinking of "3 Day Pink", but couldn’t think of slogan to go with that. Any input greatly appreciated.
BTW for this walk it is 3 days, 60 miles.

first off, congratulations!
just some ideas that come off the top of my head:

DelaJersey Trekkers (or Walkers) or some other variation of Delaware and New Jersey together

Ta-Ta Trekkers (I know, redundant, but it’s good alliteration)

Hi, I’m Morgan, im 16 and me and my friends are participating in the Susan G komen 3 day walk for the cure this November supporting breast cancer. i have never been involved in this before and i understand you have to earn $2,300 for the cause. if you have been a part of this can you please tell me how you raised the money so i can get some ideas. Does a majority of the money earned come from sponsers for how much you walk? also, if you havn’t participated in this and have any ideas on how i can raise money please leave your ideas, thanks =)

I would suggest you create table cards and ask local restaurants if it is OK to place them on the tables around the restaurants. Asking local businesses to be your sponsor can also be very effective depending on your communities attitudes and culture of giving. If you work for a rather large business or if another business is willing, sometimes they will make matching donations up to a certain point of whatever you raise. A local grain elevator matched up to 500 dollars for my mother when she walked so as long as she raised 500 dollars elsewhere, they matched for a total of 1000 dollars. Don’t be afraid to start a car wash, pet care, baby sitting, or things like that and mention that you are doing it for this cause. People tend to be more generous for simple things like that when you mention your cause.

Light the Night from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Unlike the Susan walk, you don’t need a minimum donation to be able to participate. More than 40% of all childhood cancers are a form of blood cancer, usually Leukemia.

Breast Cancer 3-Day Walks
About the Events:
The Breast-Cancer 3-Day Walks benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation are challenging and exciting events held in multiple US cities each year. Walkers are challenged to walk approximately 20 miles a day for 3 days. They camp out each night in a tent city. All meals, snacks, and trail support are provided. Each walker must raise a minimum of $2300 in donations to participate.

Registration:
Registration fee is $90. Register online or by mail. Once registered you will receive your training packet and be assigned to a coach. Orientation sessions are held in the walk cities, and walk training groups are held in many locations. The event is open to both men and women, age 16 and above. Minors must participate with their parent or legal guardian.
