The team Lynda’s Ladies was created to honor Jen’s mother (Lynda) who is an 18 year breast cancer survivor. Lynda was given a 20% chance to live for 5 years, but due to a clinical trial – she is still with us today.

Lynda’s Ladies has participated in The Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walks for Breast cancer since 2008. The first year Jennifer walked with a friend, Laura, and since then Jennifer has walked solo in DC, and now in San Diego. These walks benefit the Susan G. Komen Fund and the National Philanthropic Breast Cancer Fund. The walks are 60 miles over the course of three days.

These are the sights and memories you helped Jennifer to see during this year’s San Diego Walk.

Songs heard in the video are as follows:
#1 – I run for life by Melissa Etheridge
#2 – Pink Warrior – Candy Coburn

Remembering 10 years of Lowell General Hospital’s TeamWalk for CancerCare. Thousands have walked the historic riverwalks of Lowell for the past decade to help TeamWalk raise money for cancer patients in the Greater Lowell community. Unlike other walks, all money raised for TeamWalk stays in the community to help provide the areas most extensive array of support groups open to patients throughout our region, and to meet the personal needs of Lowell General cancer patients, including wigs, transportation to and from treatment, medications not covered by insurance and medical supplies. In “TeamWalk Memories” organizers, cancer patients, volunteers and walkers remember TeamWalk and share their personal message of TeamWalk and hope.

http://tamikaandfriends.org/january News Channel 8/TBD Anchor Melanie Hastings interviews Tamika Felder about National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month (January). The organization Tamika & Friends, Inc. was founded by cervical cancer survivor and advocate Tamika Felder who was diagnosed at age 25 and had to undergo a hysterectomy, chemo and radiation. She founded the organization Tamika & Friends, Inc. to raise awareness of the disease, educate women on how it is preventable and the links between cervical cancer and HPV. When Tamika was diagnosed there was no HPV test or vaccine.

In 2010, the American Cancer Society projected that more than 12,000 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer and nearly 4,000 will die.
Cervical cancer is caused by “high-risk” types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). According to the Centers for Disease Control at least 50 percent of sexually active women will have HPV at some point in their lives.
One of the major issues with this disease is lack of education on its causes and how it can be prevented. Early detection through pap tests and HPV testing are key. Tamika can address all of these issues as well as share her personal story with cervical cancer. The organization sponsors cervical cancer walks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Summerville, South Carolina annually. Tamika travels the country speaking on this issue and is also a survivor spokesperson for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Tamika is a Washington, D.C. based television host.

The Bridge of Health Alliance is one of Hungary’s leading breast cancer awareness organizations, and in October 2010 it organized its ninth annual breast cancer and health campaign. The campaign brings together thousands of people to walk across Budapest’s SzĂ©chenyi Chain Bridge — the city’s most famous Danube crossing. With support from GE Healthcare, the bridge was illuminated in pink, the international colour of breast cancer awareness.
The Bridge of Health Alliance’s accompanying conference saw many special guests in attendance, including actress and singer Olivia Newton-John. Newton-John overcame breast cancer after she was diagnosed with the disease in 1992, and today she campaigns for greater awareness of breast health issues. Talking about the need to detect cancer as early as possible, Newton-John said: “If you’re aware of it and check for it regularly, your chances are much better.”
2,300 women die of breast cancer every year in Hungary, but it’s estimated that nearly a third of those women would still be alive if all eligible women in Hungary attended the state-sponsored breast cancer screenings.
Hungary’s breast cancer screening programme was set up in 2001 and now has 15 digital mammography units installed across the country, with women aged between 45 and 65 automatically issued an invitation to come for a screening.
