I feel bad for saying it because they’re earning money for a good cause, and, actually, I can’t even articulate why they are so annoying. But why make a big party to raise money for such a terrible disease?
What irritates me about the breast cancer foundation is that they only focus their awareness towards one form of cancer and blow off other people with different types of cancer in their walks. Guess what? There are LOTS of forms of cancer out there! They do not recognize people in their walks that are cancer patients unless it’s breast cancer. They also require your team to raise a minimum of $2500 to be able to do the walk in the first place. Therefore, if you have only 11 bucks to donate, they dismiss you…you’d think that every dollar would be acceptable to walk along a public place to raise awareness and fund research to find a cure. I walk with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in their event called Light the Night. They don’t require a minimum donation and provide different colored balloons for patients, supporters, and in memory of those lost to cancer…not just Leukemia, Lymphoma, or other forms of blood cancer…ALL TYPES OF CANCER. I have Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. My mother was a breast cancer survivor. I have nothing against raising money for cancer research; in fact, I absolutely hope that more people donate to help to find a cure for cancer and to provide the funds needed for research for drugs that improve people’s lives. I just don’t like charity snobs. I know they are trying to raise as much money in as large amounts as possible, but I think shunning people who are not able to raise their minimum is the wrong way to go about it. Every penny counts…why turn any away?!!

2010 Apr 28 1its not a party, its trying to raise money for something that kills many people a day, and like the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer they’re cheering the men and women who walk 39.3 miles in two days.

2010 Apr 28 2This isn’t the answer but its related. Well I’ve heard of something called a "Celebration of life" that some people ask for when they die instead of a wake. It is the opposite where instead of mourning, people get together to remember all the positives. I think its kind of along those lines. #1. They need money and I don’t think they will get money if they throw depressing events. #2. If I was sick, I would want to help my cause in a way that could be fun for all my family and friends, along with myself. I don’t know, this is just what I think. sorry if it wasn’t what your looking for

2010 Apr 28 3I assume you refer to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Race For The Cure. The Komen Foundation does earn money for breast cancer research, but also supports abortion through great support of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. When Pro-Life people appear at Race for the Cure events, they are spat on and scorned.

2010 Apr 28 4Most of the money goes to corporate staff………..and then some goes to research……and really I am sick to death of seeing it everywhere……….I was at an airport in Dallas and the pink ribbon is even on American Airlines planes………go figure………it just seems it is all about the money….and not so much about research…………but I totally understand and agree about feeling bad…….but it seems to me it has become about the marketing than the illness…..

2010 Apr 28 7I think it’s selfish and disrespectful to even attempt to knock down these “breast cancer walks”. I lost my mother to cancer when I was 16… 7 years later I think of these walks as something I can do to show her and the world that their will one day be a cure and hope that no other woman has to go what she went through. They raise an unbelievable amount of money to put towards this horrible disease and you should be ashamed of yourself.
