Gait analysis is a method used to assess the way we walk or run to highlight biomechanical abnormalities. A gait analysis can also help to determine the type of running shoes each individual person will need. You may need more ankle support or a higher arch to perform to the best of your ability.

You can have your gait analysed at a Podiatry Clinic or a runing store but a Podiatrist has much more experience in dealing with feet.

Hi there!

A good pair of running shoes really depends on the surface you're running (trail, road or track), the size of your arch (low, medium, high) and your stride (underpronator, neutral, overpronator). If you want the best results go to your local running store and have them conduct a foot analysis on you to determine which is the best shoe for you, whether you need a neutral shoe, stability or motion control. You may also find that you need orthotics particularly if your arches strain easily.

Personally, if you require a lot of cushioning and support I recommend Asics. My current pair are the Nike Zoom Elite+4 for women and they are the perfect shoe for me. To research check out : runnersworld.com as they have loads of reviews on shoes from different brands that may suit you.

If you want a really good pair of running shoes you must be willing to spend at least $100, possibly more. Asics are generally more expensive RRP over $200, but more affordable brands include Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Saucony, Mizuno, Brooks, etc.

Hope this helps! :)
References :
A good pair of running shoes is one that fits you and suitable for running gait.

Are you a over-pronator or neutral runner? That will determine what running shoes you should be getting. Over-pronators need more supportive shoes (eg NB 760 or ASICS Gel-2150). Neutral runners just need cushioning ones such as NB 751 and ASICS Cumulus 11.

To know what kind of runner you are, Runner's World website got a pretty good explanatory video on that topic. Check it out!
References :
http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1243816238?bclid=1716449631&bctid=1716440001
