How do I organize a cancer walk?
03 Dec 2009
I am one person, not a group or anything, but I want to organize a charity walk/run in my relatively small town. I have a close friend that after 12 years had leukemia coming back and want to do something not just for her, but for everyone affected by cancer. It has touched my life in far to many ways in the past couple years. Any good ideas or how-to guides or even from personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
The best way to go is to approach the Cancer Society in your area, State or province. They will help you with almost everything you need, since they are the recipient of the proceeds. They can help you with pledge sheets and how to set it up. It is a good thing to to, but it does take work. Good Luck!! I lost my best friend to breast cancer so I know how you feel.

2009 Dec 03 2Get some friends to help you first off, it can’t be a one person job. Go around to different companies, explain what you are doing, and get them to sponsor you or donate some money. Sponsors will usually give you a certain amount of money corresponding to the amount of people that show up. Next advertise around your local area, depending on how big you want the walk to be. Put up commercials, flyers, newspaper adds, but make them at least a month in advance. Once people show up for the event, and after the event is over, go back to the sponsors for the money, and donate it to a charity fighting cancer.
Sorry if this is very vague, I’m only 15, so I don’t have much experience with this…

2009 Dec 03 3Hello:
If it is for all types of cancer than contact the
american cancer society. they will be happy to
help you get one started. There phone number is
1-800-227-2345. Or if it is for breast cancer call
the Susan G. Komen at 1-877-465-6636. Either
