Laws about having a bake sale for charity?
15 Jun 2009
I live in Massachusetts.
this weekend I'm planning a bakesale at a local buisness (I already have written permission) for procedes to benefit the "Boston three day" breast cancer walk. I'm a member of the crew.
It is required I raise $500, so technically the money is for personal reasons, but 100% of the money I'll make goes to breast cancer charites (Susan G. Komen for the Cure, NPT). I've already checked with my crew captain and he approves of a bake sale, but is there any laws involving the money, the charities etc… ?
And also is there any laws about selling food to the public ? Just stupid stuff like cupcakes, brownies etc. ?
Please help !!! <3
btw if anyone wants to check out my event/make a donation:

I don't think anything like that, especially on a one-shot basis, is regulated. If you were a restaurant you would have to comply with Department of Health regulations, and if you were a retailer you would have other regulations, but a charity bake sale should be fine. I've never heard of anyone getting jammed up over something like that unless the charity is a fraud.
Good luck, I'm scooting over to make a donation (lost my mom to breast cancer 20-some years ago).
