I volunteered to do this walk for cancer thing. It's 4 miles. But on the registration paper I have to sign that I attest that I am physically fit and trained for participation of this event. Now, I have walked 4 miles but I don't think it's necessarily a activity that I need to get training for. I am 15 and physically fit but I just want to know what I am getting into. Does anyone have previous experiences and how it was?

I did a similar walk myself last year for cancer and I can tell you – some people were needing ambulances before they even reached the halfway point! They have to make sure everyone signs this as they can't check every single persons fitness levels.

The point is though, that they need you to sign that YOU are responsible for anything that happens to you during this walk. If you didn't sign it and you felt ill during the walk, or someone hurt you, you fell over and hurt yourself etc – it would be a real hassle for them if you try and sue them because you felt it was their responsibility that you didn't get hurt you see.

This is also particularly important for people under the age of 16, as you are classed as a child.

I also have to admit – I thought walking a load of miles would be really easy – I began training to run it at first but in the end decided to walk as 1 of my team members became pregnant, so I didn't train. It was harder than I thought!

Good luck and well done for wanting to take part :)

You don't need to train for it. :D

The people who don't walk at what is a reasonable pace for themselves are the ones who really ought to just donate and man a booth. :D
